In January 1998, San Antonio Metropolitan Youth Soccer Institute (SAMYS) organized as a nonprofit Texas corporation and the IRS certified it as a §501(c)(3) charity under the federal tax code, making donations to SAMYS tax-deductible.

SAMYS is the self-designated soccer field development and maintenance arm of organized soccer in the SA metro area.  It does not compete with soccer clubs to recruit and train teams.  Rather, it opens its facilities to any and all who make a reservation and pay the user fee.

All SAMYS' income goes to its charitable purposes.  No SAMYS volunteer, officer, director or other individual profits personally.  In fact, a SAMYS director who owned 30 acres of
PEPSI Soccer, TX absorbed considerable costs by leasing it to SAMYS for $1/year.  (Now, SAMYS owns all 42 acres.)

Current office holders (and their soccer & other credentials) are:

  • Pres. Ed Sakiewicz (former pro player & men's college coach; business owner & university professor) pres@soccertexas.com
  • VP Gary Wilcox (USSF "C" licensed coach) vp@soccertexas.com
  • Secty/Treas Mike Dennis (USSF "C" licensed coach; attorney) sectytreas@soccertexas.com
